Turn the water off

The main shut-off in many Pueblo homes is in the basement or crawl space where the line comes through the foundation, or near the water heater in slab homes. If it won't move, the curb stop in the meter pit near the street shuts off the whole property. Keep the right key or wrench somewhere you can find it in the dark.

If you smell gas

Leave the house straight away. Don't switch lights on or off, use a phone indoors or start a car in an attached garage. Phone the gas utility or 911 from outside. Once the utility says it's safe, a licensed plumber repairs any leaking gas piping on your side of the meter.
