Plumbing where the Arkansas meets Fountain Creek
Pueblo is the seat of Pueblo County and, with 111,876 people at the 2020 census, the ninth-largest city in Colorado. It grew up where Fountain Creek joins the Arkansas River, about 112 miles south of the State Capitol, and its neighborhoods range from brick homes near downtown to newer subdivisions on the city's edges and in Pueblo West. Many older houses still have original drain lines; see drain cleaning.
Dry, sunny and occasionally very cold
Pueblo has a semi-arid climate with only about 12 inches of precipitation a year, and its spot in the so-called Banana Belt means less snow than most Colorado cities. Cold still arrives in sharp bursts: lows reach zero or below on about six nights a year. Swamp coolers, sprinklers and outdoor taps are where that cold does damage; see swamp cooler start-up and shut-down.
